This Week In The Galaxy May 17, 2019

I made progress only on my Dancer this week.   She’s moving along nicely towards Dancing Knowledge 4.

The Dance of the Week was Tumble2.  As I suspected, it’s a dangerous dance.  I let Sinome dance all day on Mother’s Day, checking in now and then.  She spent quite a while in each area, but she did always move onward and upward.

I stopped her here, so she didn’t also end in a lair as I’d envisioned last week!

Still Got Those Rose Colored Glasses!

With all the Emulator news and talk lately, I looked up some early reviews of Star Wars Galaxies.  I could only find a couple, and I’ve probably read them in the past, but they were surprising to me somehow.   As I read them I thought, these guys were really coming from a different point of view than those of us who came to Galaxies as their first online game.   Everyone I met in game loved the game.  They loved Star Wars.   They read all the books, watched all the films.  They were smart, funny, super-fans who rarely broke character.   People built cities, went on cantina crawls, large groups went creature hunting on the Adventure Planets, Rebels and Imperials raided each other’s bases.

After playing in the emulator for the Pre-Combat Upgrade era for several years, I absolutely feel the same about the game as I ever did.  It just needs those super-fans to return.

IGN generally liked the game, though the reviewer found the “grind” to level repetitive.

Gamespot was disappointed in the game, spending quite a bit of time saying you could find many features in other similar games, though he mentions none except Dark Age of Camelot and Everquest towards the end.  Neither of those seem anything like Galaxies to me.   The reviewer does give a good breakdown of the game and it’s features, grudgingly.   The article contains the worst, fuzziest screenshots I’ve ever seen.

This Week In The Galaxy May 10, 2019

The recent emu publish is Publish 10.    I thought it was all Jedi stuff, but there’s plenty more.    I am cautiously optimistic vendor search improvements have led to more normal business traffic.    I have a character in Bestine who’s going to try out the Bestine Elections, as soon as I refresh my memory as to how they work.

My Dancer is still working Tumble2, which leads her to sometimes work her way off the cantina stage.  I fear sometime she’ll have worked her way outside, through the city, and into a creature lair.

This Week In The Galaxy May 3, 2019

This week it’s all about the art of the Dance.  It’s sort of fun getting the new dances and seeing them play out.   I had been thinking while working on Musician as well as on Dance that it would be fun to have macros for each song and dance, because the Flourish animations vary by song and dance.  I could spend some time really watching them, and create macros that compliment each.

It seems to me there used to be a nice guide for Musicians that did something like that, and I haven’t been able to find it online, nor in my vast notes or copies of pages.

For Dance, there is a spectacular guide still available called Sultrina’s Guide to Dancing

It does really what I was wishing for and more.   I don’t see why some of what she says can’t be applied to Musician.

I am impressed with some of the Dance choreography.   You never hear how they worked on that while making the game.  Is there any other game that has such a feature?

Sinome doing Tumble 2

She’s not quite the accomplished Dancer, so there are stumbles.

Goals for the next week:

Continue Dance progress.

Get Intermediate Firearms, Weaponsmith.

Continue leveling Doctor, including Medicine crafting.

Creature Handler/Bioengineer,  any progress is good.

Restock, restock, restock.

The current resource push is for Doctor resources, so Tatooine Fiberplast is in the Hoppers and some Dantooine Herbivore Meat is being harvested.  I forgot what fun Pikets can be.
